Student at Exam preparation lesson

Exam Preparation 20 Lessons

20 lessons/15 hours of Study per Week

This is the less intensive version of our exam preparation course for students who want to study seriously towards an examination.

We have a very experienced team of exam teachers, several of whom are also Cambridge examiners.

Course Structure

09:15-12:45 Monday to Friday

The classes prepare students for IELTS, Cambridge First Certificate (FCE) or Cambridge Advanced (CAE). The focus is on exam skills and techniques that are the same in these different exams.

If you need practice that focuses on one particular exam, we would recommend that you take the more intensive 28-lesson programme.

The lessons are based on modern exam coursebooks, though your teacher will also bring in extra materials to make sure the course meets your specific needs. We lend you the coursebook with no extra fees, though you may be asked to buy a workbook for approximately £15.

Course Objectives

To help you prepare for an English language examination by:

  • Training you in exam skills and techniques
  • Giving you extensive examination practice
  • Improving the level of your English through a combination of language input and practice in the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • Developing the study skills that will enable you to continue to learn English after your course.

For further information, see the course description.

Levels and Progress

You will have a test on your first day to place you in a class at the right level.  Our weekly progress tests and monthly tutorials make sure you move up to a higher level as soon as you are ready.

This course is for Intermediate to Advanced level students only.

Intermediate (CEFR B1) Can communicate effectively in most situations but sometimes has to work hard to do so.

Upper Intermediate (CEFR B2) Can communicate effectively in most situations and can usually easily re-phrase in order to be understood.

Advanced (CEFR C1) Can communicate effectively in all but the most difficult situations.

If you are not sure of your level, contact us and we will send you a test and give advice. If your English is not yet good enough, you can join the General English course until you are ready to transfer to Exam Preparation.

The fees for General English and Exam Preparation are the same, so there are no extra course fees.
